Recollections of Memories

installation • 2024
glazed ceramics, gold lustre, mixed media, variable
exhibited (group exhibition) at Bunjil Place Gallery, Melbourne, AU

The exhibition celebrates the vibrant versatility of clay through the work of a new generation of Asian Australian contemporary artists. Curated by the award-winning artist Vipoo Srivilasa, it brings together fourteen artists from across Australia, each creating new works with a predominantly blue and white palette. This ceramic piece, commissioned by Bunjil Place, is featured in the group exhibition Generation Clay: Reimagining Asian Heritage. Recollections of Memories is a ceramic installation reflecting the artist’s Chinese Indonesian heritage, blending personal history, cultural traditions, and familial ties. Featuring symbolic elements like a tiger guardian and memorial table, it invites participants to share memories through ‘celengan’ (piggy bank), fostering dialogue and celebrating diverse identities.
